Mintal and UP Mindanao constituents benefited from a free medical and dental service last 20 February 2009 during the 3rd Betan Tito de Santos Memorial/Dental Mission. The beneficiaries of this outreach program were pre-screened by the UP Mindanao medical team in order to serve the community members who are in most need of medical and dental assistance. Majority of the beneficiaries was a mix of children and adult residents of Brgy. Mintal. This outreach program comes straight from the United States with the UP Beta Sigma Fraternity (BSF) Alumni Association of Southern California taking the lead, which is headed by Betan Dr. Frank Mamaril. The mission was organized in cooperation with UP, National, DMSF, and Davao BSF Alumni Associations headed by Betans Sebastian “Anggie” Angliongto, Sam Strong, Dr. Jong Mirto, and Joel Pamaran, respectively, and in partnership with UP Mindanao through the full support of Chancellor Gilda Rivero and Office of Student Affairs Director Avelina Ayson, Davao Medical Center, Philippine Academy of Family Physicians, UPMin BIOS Society, and Brgy Captain Ramon Bargamento, Jr. of Brgy Mintal. The public service was inspired by the memory of Tito de Santos who headed a successful medical/dental mission at Brgy. Angliongto in July 2006. Mrs. Viching de Santos, wife of the late Tito de Santos and a UP Sigma Betan, also joined the mission where she hosted a fellowship dinner at LinMar Apartelle for all those who helped the successful community service. The Beta Sigma Fraternity, since 1946, has been active in organizing projects that benefit the indigent communities in the country as part of their commitment to serve. This mission was held in conjunction with the 14th anniversary of UP Mindanao. (Article by Jayrome Rala UPMindanao 2000C)
